What's the difference between the Singer and the Decoder?＋
Sight-singing takes three isolated skills. The Singer covers the first — the ear: students sing a sequence back and the mic checks their pitch. The Decoder covers the other two on their own tracks — notation (read the staff, tap the syllable) and rhythm (perform the line in tempo). Most directors run all three, then combine them.
Is the Decoder included in every plan?＋
The Decoder is included in the $99/year Solfège Singer & Decoder package and in the Collective — at no extra cost, for you and all your students. It is not part of the $19 Singer Solo, which is the Singer only.
Is rhythm part of the Decoder, or separate?＋
It's inside the Decoder, but it runs as its own track — a Rhythm exercise with its own six levels and its own scores, so you can assign notation and rhythm independently. Students set a tempo, get a count-off, and press and hold each note for its full duration; the line is graded at the end. It's included wherever the Decoder is included, at no extra cost.
Do my students need email addresses or accounts?＋
No. You add students to a classroom from your dashboard and a PIN is generated for each. They sign in by choosing their name and entering that PIN — one login works for both apps. Nothing for them to create, nothing for you to reset.
What devices does it work on?＋
Any modern browser — phones, Chromebooks, tablets, laptops, and your classroom Smartboard. Nothing to download or install, so it works on school devices and personal ones alike.
Does the Decoder need a microphone?＋
No. The Decoder is tap-based — students read a note and tap the right syllable, so it works anywhere, silently, no mic permissions needed. The Singer uses the microphone to check sung pitch.
How does grading work?＋
Every submitted take arrives in your portal with a finalized score — the Singer out of 13, the Decoder as accuracy and speed. It doesn't push into your school's gradebook; you see the scores and decide what they're worth. My advice: grade the effort and the growth — the accuracy takes care of itself.
